S3an Alexander was born and raised in St. Louis, MO but is currently living in Chicago, IL. He is a self taught artist and designer. He always had a passion for art throughout his younger years but never took it serious. Never thought it could be a career always a hobby. After graduating high school in 2011 he picked up a paint brush in hopes to find another form of expression to make a transition from music. Which is what he always thought he do growing up but found this new love for visual art that changed everything for the better. His love for fashion always lingered closely behind. He always kind of juggled the two mediums but finally decided to take a leap at creating a brand he called “brllantmnds” in November of 2017. This is the move he feels changed everything forever. Bringing us to where we are now…
Artist Statement:
“I describe my self as an artist, period, no subcategories or genres, just an artist. My focus changes often from acrylic paint to graphic design to fashion design to even creative direction at times, it shifts as my brain does. I will say there is a pretty consistent mood throughout my work. From black women, to flowers, balloons, etc. they all articulate different forms of celebration & growth. This is where my message lives. Growing up I always noticed championship trophies, the beloved letterman jacket, gold medals and such were always reserved for sports. The artist and creative people of the world, more specifically the black artist and creatives of the world didn't seem to get the same scale of acknowledgment. So in my work in some ways that’s where i shift my focus. I want to celebrate the things that inspire me most, rather it be temporary or long term. Each canvas, each design is a moment of celebration. Thats where it starts and ends for me. Any additional meaning or interpretation is for the consumer to decide.”
